5 Tips To Create Online Content

How To Create Online Content

Why Creating Online Content Is So Important

Creating online content is essential if you want to grow your online business.

It can help you get discovered on search engines like Google and Youtube (yes, Youtube is a search engine) and it helps search engines recognize that you’re a legitimate business.

This will help you rank within search engines which will produce organic leads you can market and convert into sales.

The Wrong Way To Write Online

So many people miss this opportunity to grow their businesses. But here’s the thing. There is a right way and a wrong way to write content online.

The wrong way is to write like you’re reading a book. Maybe you have a lot of nice paragraphs, lots of viewpoints, and an abundance of words. Although thorough, people will not read your post if you write it that way.

Here’s what you need to know.  People don’t read on the internet, they scan.  You need to write your content with this in mind. Let’s go over the 5 steps to create content online.

Step 1 - Solve One Problem Per Post

Keep things simple. The most effective way to create content is to solve only one problem per post and go into detail doing just that.

If you use this post as an example, I’m going into detail on how to create online content, nothing more.

This allows you to go deep talking about one topic and your audience is able to absorb this information better because you’re only talking about ONE thing.

Step 2 - Introduction

Now let’s begin the process of writing the post. You have your topic, now we need to write about it.

First, you want to tell your audience what you will be helping them with.

Give them a sentence or two about what you are about to teach/solve for them.

You don’t want to go into too much detail, just touch on a reason or two and why it’s important.

Step 3 - Give 3-5 Viewpoints

Now it’s time to write the core of your post. This is WHY you are writing this post. Give 3-5 viewpoints on what you’re teaching them.

These viewpoints need to be in headers. This is what your audience will scan.

From there you will add 3-4 SENTENCES (not paragraphs) under EACH viewpoint/header on why this solves their problem.

Creating Online Content

Remember, if the reader sees a lot of words (such as a long paragraph) they will see it as too much of a time commitment and most likely won’t continue to read your post.

A good way to break up words is to add in images, graphs or quotes. I call these enhancers. I like to add 2 enhancers per post and usually within the viewpoints.

Step 4 - Conclusion

Ok, so now that you’ve helped them solve their problem, now you need to summarize what you just helped them with.

In 3-4 sentences conclude what they just learned. This should clearly state the solution to their problem.

If you want to give them another win, share something that is relevant and will bring them additional value. Remember, we are here to offer value and give them something they weren’t expecting as special bonus.

So If I was concluding this post, I might conclude with the 5 steps to create online content:

  • Step 1 - Solve one problem

  • Step 2 - Introduction

  • Step 3 - Solve problem with 3-5 view points

  • Step 4 - Summarize/conclusion

  • Step 5 - CTA

Side note (or additional bonus) bullet points are your friend. It helps to break up the words and you can scan the content quickly.

Step 5 - CTA (Call To Action)

Finally, you want to end with a call to action. You want to continue the conversation and engage with your reader.

Remember, we want to start building a relationship with your readers. Invite them to join your private Facebook group, or invite them to a workshop you’ve created to capture their email and attention.

Give value and continue nurturing this conversation.
