10 Proven Strategies for Optimizing SEO on Your Blog Posts

10 Proven Strategies for Optimizing SEO on Your Blog Posts

If you’re spending all this time turning your knowledge into great blog posts, the last thing you want is for no one to see them.

You can increase the chances of your articles being organically found through search engine optimization (SEO) on your blog.

In simple terms, it’s writing and optimizing your posts the way Google and other search engines want.

If you google how to SEO and the best way to do it, you’ll likely be so overwhelmed that you won’t even know where to start. Most overcomplicate this topic, but I’m here today to simplify optimizing SEO on your blog.

With that, let’s take a look at this. Here are 10 steps to get eyes on your posts organically.

  1. Find The Right Keywords For Your Topic

There are many tools to help you with this, but if you’re solving a problem that needs to be solved, simply title your post with what you’re solving for your audience.

The keywords will most likely land within your post and your title naturally.

As an example, one of my most popular posts on one of my businesses is “How To Get Rid of Canker Sores Naturally Without Any Medicine.”

Get rid of canker sores naturally was a keyword.

This post got me over 3 million views and a book deal and I did it exactly how I am teaching you today.

I found this method along with my simple SEO marketing equation to be the most effective way to be discovered on search engines.

2. Title Post With Keywords and Curiosity.

So now that you have your topic and keywords nailed down, you need to create an enticing title for your post.

The first question I always ask myself is “How would I type this into Google if I was searching for the solution to my problem?”

This strategy has always served me well and allows me to title the post without overthinking it.

The main thing to remember is that you want to create curiosity in your post’s title. Give them a reason to pause and wonder what you are talking about. You don’t want to be spammy about it, your readers will see right through that. Here are some examples of posts that all landed me on page one of Google.

  • Follow this one tip and get a ton of organic strawberries

  • The best gluten-free bread ever

  • How to get rid of canker sores naturally without any medicine

  • How to cook on and season a stainless steel pan to create a non-stick surface

  • Get rid of sour towels with just one ingredient

3. Write Your Post For How People Read Online

There is a certain way to write on the internet, Google knows it and you need to know it too. Here’s the secret to great content being discovered.

You MUST write so that your audience can easily scan your material. They should be able to get all their takeaways through the headers alone.

Additionally, bold any further takeaways in the text outside of the headers.

4. Write a Good Meta Description

Let’s look at the back end of a post for a second and how to optimize SEO for a blog post through the meta description. First and foremost you want to make sure your keywords are in the SEO description.

Look at the SEO description. This tells the audience a little bit of what to expect should they choose to read this article.

Notice that the keywords “SEO marketing” are in the meta description. In addition, not only does my post title create curiosity, but so does the SEO description.

5. Optimize Your Photos

Be sure to use images to break up your text. Images are also searchable and can help you rank with SEO.

Be sure to use a good filename descriptions (use your keywords) and good image alt text. Image alt text should describe what your image is.

Optimize your image to be smaller in size and be the correct size for your website’s theme. Large image sizes will slow down your load time and that will impact your site’s speed and SEO.

6. Do a Youtube Video

YouTube is a VERY powerful search engine outside of Google and can help get more traffic to your posts.

On top of that, Google owns Youtube, and businesses like when you use their entire ecosystem and will often reward you for it when you do.

Make sure your videos are optimized for SEO and are categorized as “Public” videos and not unlisted.

Youtube is often the most underutilized social media platform. Yes, Youtube is social media. In a world that is obsessed with videos, it’s time to pay closer attention to what Youtube can do for your business.

7. Use Tags and Categories

Just like you would tag on social media posts like Instagram (#hashtag), you also need to tag in the backend of your blog posts.

These should be your keywords and other words such as your target audience/avatar.

As an example, I might tag SEO marketing, simple SEO marketing, simplified SEO, grow your business, women in business, female-owned businesses, female entrepreneurs, optimizing SEO, SEO how-to, and SEO on Blog Posts.

8. Link Internally and Externally

If it makes sense to use an external link, do so. This can help boost your SEO.

Never allow any paid backlinks on your website, not even if they are categorized as “no-follows”. Google will ding you for this and it can affect how you rank within their search engines.

You should ALWAYS link internally to a relevant post where your audience can engage with you longer.

This is a terrific way to add more value with your readers.

9. End Your Post With A Great CTA

Always end with a call to action (CTA). Give your readers something further to do.

I like to invite my audience to watch my free workshop. There is a TON of value in my workshop and they will get to know me better and learn a little more about how I might be of service to them.

I also like to have a button that allows them to click through to my workshop. It’s eye-catching and allows them to see that there is more if they’d like to learn more.

10. Optimize Your Post For Mobile Use

Finally, you want to make sure that you optimize your website and your blog posts for mobile use.

52.8% of total web visits come from mobile users and some claim it’s closer to 60%.

The important thing to note is that there has been an upward trend over the last decade of people using their mobile devices over their desktops.

It’s important to optimize the user experience for both sites.

Final Thoughts…

If you follow these 10 proven strategies for optimizing SEO on your blog posts, you will be well on your way to ranking in search engines.

It will take time, you don’t land on page one of Google overnight. But with consistency and GREAT content, you will be moving in the right direction.

One final thought, pay close attention to the user’s experience. Hone in on what you like and what you don’t like when visiting a website.

As an example, I can’t stand going to a website and a popup shows up in 2 seconds. That’s why I don’t have popup’s on my websites. I choose to capture emails in a more unique and effective way.

Rule of thumb, if you don’t like something…most likely others won’t either. Pay attention to what bothers you and steer away from that so that you can create the best user experience for your audience.
